Kimley-Horn Expands Prescence with New Downtown Huntsville Office
By Abigail Harrison, DHI Communications Coordinator
Kimley-Horn, a renowned engineering and design firm with a legacy spanning back to 1967, has marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its latest office space in Downtown Huntsville. The firm, which began in Raleigh, North Carolina, has since burgeoned into a multidisciplinary powerhouse, with more than 7,500 staff members in 130+ offices across the U.S. and specializes in civil engineering, landscape architecture, transportation, and planning.
The grand opening of Kimley-Horn's new office, located at 200 West Side Square, was commemorated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last month. This strategic expansion reflects the company's commitment to embedding itself deeply within communities it serves, fostering meaningful connections with clients, and enhancing its accessibility to local projects.
"Downtown Huntsville presents an ideal environment for us," said Jenny Brown, PE, Practice Leader at Kimley-Horn. "We like to open offices in strategic locations where we know we can have a permanent presence and really get involved in the community and get to know our clients, which is beneficial in making sure projects are successful."
Kimley-Horn's expansion into Downtown Huntsville underscores its enduring commitment to innovation, community engagement, and client-centricity. With a rich portfolio of projects already underway in the local area, such as the Crestwood Medical expansion in Harvest, Regional West Planning Study with the City of Huntsville, Huntsville Utilities MTMUS Water Tank, and the UAH Campus Master Plan update—combined with the team’s impressive portfolio of work with large mixed-use developments, critical infrastructure expansions, master planning, residential developments, and advanced manufacturing across the Southeast—the firm is poised to make significant contributions to the city's continued growth and development.
Clay Smith, PE, Practice Leader at Kimley-Horn, returned to North Alabama to open Kimley-Horn’s office with Jenny. He emphasized the practical live-work-play advantages of the new office: “Downtown Huntsville is a great place for us to have meetings, grab coffees, and work outside of the office without necessarily having to get in our cars and commute. Walkability is important to us. It enables us to easily recruit college hires as well.”
As Kimley-Horn celebrates 17 years as one of FORTUNE's “100 Best Companies to Work For,” its latest endeavor in Downtown Huntsville signifies not just a physical expansion but a reaffirmation of its values and dedication to serving communities across the nation.
